Two words on my mind today. William Gallas. The epitome of today's egocentric footballer. Great for anti-Gooners - he's doing his utmost to accelerate Arsenal's stalling season with his latest outburst.

I was delighted when Arsenal signed Gallas and initially thought Arsene Wenger got the best of the Cashley Cole deal: a world class defender that Arsenal needed to replace Sol Campbell.

But Gallas was never a leader of men - he had John Terry next to him at Chelsea who not only led by example (even though Terry himself is a scum bag) but would also dominate in the air, so Gallas would sweep up the seconds and use his pace to cover in behind. A perfect combination.

But there is no Terry at Arsenal. Senderos promised to be a dominant stopper, but ended up being a calamity. Kolo Toure is similar to Gallas in style and the two don't complement each other, hence the fuck ups. And the same applies to Mikael Silvestre.

Gallas was chosen to lead the team which has clearly backfired on Wenger, who has been questioned for making that choice.

Let's get one thing straight, Gallas has always been a trouble maker. At Chelsea he threatened to score an own goal unless he was sold on. He also refused to play left-back when Ricardo Carvalho emerged at the Bridge.

So it wouldn't surprise me if Gallas had it written in his contract that he would be the next Arsenal skipper if his pal Henry were to leave, which of course he did.

Gallas' first season at Arsenal was plagued by injury but his second season, his first as skipper, started well, until the Birmingham saga.

At St Andrews Gallas behaved like a spoilt brat after Gael Clichy had given away a pen to let Birmingham share the points - the game that has been highlighted as the point where Arsenal threw away the title, although I believe if Eduardo had not had his leg smashed up in that game he would have continued to score the goals that would have seen off Manchester United and Chelsea in the title race.

This season Gallas has again failed to show his Chelsea form, with mistakes against Fulham and Aston Villa to name but a couple costing points for his team.

He was photographed leaving a nightclub with a cigarette in his mouth - a fine example for a dressing room full of kids to look up to.

After the win over United, a game in which Gallas had his best game in the red and white and led the team well, I began to think that he had turned the corner - that we would see the best of Gallas.

But then he gets out-paced and out-muscled by little Gabriel Agbonlahor as Villa effectively ended Arsenal's title challenge.

And now this latest outburst.

Former France international Jerome Rothen summed up Gallas in his autobiography when he said as a youngster Gallas was a 'laughing stock'. It seems not a lot has changed.

What though are Gallas' motives for this outburst? The press haven't touched upon this today, but with Gallas' autobiography coming out soon, this controversy seems like a great PR stunt in which to publicise any forthcoming book.

That just sums up the man, if you can call him that. Frank McLintock, Tony Adams and Patrick Vieira were fine leaders of men. Gallas is neither leader nor man. More like a self-centred parasite.
